Ayurveda is a two-part Sanskrit word, where ayu means ‘life’ and veda means ‘knowledge’ or ‘science’. This translates as the knowledge or science of life. Ayurveda is basically a body of wisdom that teaches us how to live healthy and happy in our body in the most natural way possible. It is a medicine that is tailored to (re)activate the body’s self-healing capacity, with a holistic perspective on dis-eases/imbalances and especially the prevention thereof.
Ayurveda is based on the timeless universal laws of nature, teaching us that we are intrinsically connected to the (natural) world around us. It holds this vast knowledge in a structure where everything in the universe is built out of the same five elements; ether, air, fire, water and earth. Which also shows that we are very much affected by the rhythms of the sun and the moon, the pulse of the seasons, and the cadence of nature’s daily energies.
It’s when we give reverence to this relationship and align ourselves with nature’s heartbeat that we experience true wellbeing. Ayurveda gives us guidelines for healthy nutrition, herbs, self-care, sleep, breathing, exercise, and lifestyle; all tailored to your unique being and situation. Guiding you into this intuitive way of self-care. We just need to be awakened to it; to open our minds a bit and reconnect with the natural world in and around us. For stepping into this is stepping into true, lasting wellbeing; a way to reconnect with our true self; that which is healthy and vibrant.
The goal of Ayurvedic consultations is to help you find the balance that supports your body and mind in healing and preventing (physical, emotional and mental) imbalance. Finding what works for you with a unique personal approach through change in diet, lifestyle and herbal support.
Robin will help you stimulate the self-healing ability of your body and get the best out of yourself.
A 60 minute massage in which specific marma points are treated for the specific complaints/imbalances you encounter.
Ayurveda talks about 117 vital energy points; or marma points. These marma points are located in places in our body where veins, arteries, tendons, bones or joints intersect. During the treatment these points are stimulated, allowing blocked energy (which creates tension) to flow freely again.
Marma therapy often brings immediate relaxation and pain relief. It can quickly give a relieve in many conditions, such as migraines and joint- and muscle pains.
It brings focus, calmness, and helps release pent-up emotions and deep emotional trauma that translates into physical pains. Marma therapy therefore applies to both physical and emotional imbalance.
This therapy can be given with or without oil.
An Abhyanga massage is a full body massage in which you’ll be massaged with warm herbal oils.
Partly due to the different marma points (vital energy points) that are included, this massage stimulates your lymph- and blood circulation, and relaxes your muscles and nervous system.
The natural oils nourish your skin, and by using specific herbal oils, the massage can have an analgesic effect and helps removing toxins from your body.
Abhyanga massage has a positive effect on:
Karna Purana is a procedure in which lukewarm medicinal oil is dripped into the ears. The oil is absorbed by the mucous membrane located in the ear canal. This ensures a rapid absorption of the herbs so that the therapeutic effect is quickly noticeable.
It is mainly used to prevent imbalance as a result of an increased vata dosha. It is especially recommended for hearing deterioration, earaches, excess ear wax, tinnitus, head complaints, stiffness in the neck or jaw, dizziness, and hyperactivity.
What does the treatment look like?
The treatment starts with a relaxing head and face massage. The area around the ears is given extra attention. Then lukewarm oil is carefully poured into your ear. We wait a little while for the oil to get absorbed while keeping your ear warm. We then repeat this with the other ear.
The administration of medication by the nasal route is called nasya. Because breathing has a direct influence on both the mental and physical condition of a person, it is important to properly maintain the nasal cavities. Blockages in this area are a cause of many disorders of the head. And because of this, nasya is a very effective treatment to reduce and cure complaints related to the head.
A nasya treatment helps to prevent colds and sinus infections and provides relief from problems with taste and smell. This treatment can also be used for neck complaints, (facial) paralysis, frozen shoulder, Parkinson’s, and headache complaints.
What does the treatment look like?
The treatment starts with a relaxing head and face massage. Then lukewarm oil is dripped into both nostrils and sniffed.
Basti is an external oil therapy in which a dam of dough is made on the painful area that then is filled and kept warm with a warm medicinal herbal oil.
During and after the treatment, the area is massaged.
Basti therapy provides immediate relief as it softens the vata dosha. The basti’s are safe and have no side effects or complications. Depending on your complaint, the following basti’s are applied:
Katu Basti the nurturing treatment against back complaints and disorders
During this treatment, the dam is constructed around the cervical area. Indications are: stiff and painful lower back complaints and conditions such as lumbar spondylosis, spondylolisthesis, vertebral prolapse, rheumatoid arthritis, sacroilitis and lumbar tension.
Greeva Basti the basti for your neck
Greeva basti treatment treats the cervical area. Tensions in the cervical area, cervical spondylosis, spondiylolisthesis, vertebral prolapse and rheumatoid arthritis can be treated well with greeva basti.
Akshitarpana is a unique procedure to treat your eyes and improve your vision. Your eyes are oiled through a bath.
Indications for akshitarpana are: sore, swollen eyes, eye strain, dry eyes, eyelash loss, blurred vision, glaucoma, conjuntivitis and uveitis.
